We had this plate made up to add something different to the re-enacting community. Instead of the mostly cast or stamped brass plates that are already available, this buckle shows the true inefficiency of the South to uniform her soldiers with top quality equipment. This buckle can be found referenced in "Confederate Belt Buckles & Plates" by Steve Mullinax. That particular example was dug in a confederate camp near Corinth, Miss. A simple plate featuring a tin body with hemmed edges for ridgity and a bent wire hook soldered to the back.
